Opinion

Some random thoughts after the tsunami tragedy in Asia on December 26.

Tsunami thoughts

A wave that high is not made out of water.

When the sea receded, there were children collecting fish on the seashore. The scales were guilty of glimmering in the sunlight. And the fish did wobble this way, and then a little the other way in the dry sand. It was all very enticing.

A woman crying by the seashore. When the tears were from two eyes, one person at a time, I could ignore them. But habit has dulled my imagination, and now even the collective grief of a hundred thousand people requires a leap of imagination.

Life is meaningless. We are all interconnected. I know that. Then why do my eyes, bleary after lack of sleep affect me more than anything?

The sun beats down on Arizona. There is a fat woman wearing shorts. I close my ears. I do not want to hear her say, “We are so fortunate compared to the world.” All trite statements do is give comfort to her type without providing solutions for anyone at all.

The stench of rotting bodies hurts the eyes.

I look up the map again. How are there only forty people dead in Burma?

Are the governments going to build stronger houses in the near future? Or are the poor people destined to provide numbers with commas to the front pages of newspapers?

The Ministry for Health and Extreme Happiness has once again provided a stellar performance.

The world has reached out with over one billion dollars.

How many game show participants have signed up for a 365 day event of “Who wants to live like a rural Asian?” Build character, develop understanding.

Hope the boat builders get there in the next few days.

Act Two, Dialogue 3: “I say the only way the underrepresented populations of the world are going to get their fair share, when they become economically viable for the corporations.”

A3D2: “Now as government officials we do more than just stamp rubber! We keep them in check.”

Eager eyes look towards the skies.

Now why does the ocean recede again?

The anchors on CNN, FOX and the network news programs experience continuous orgasms in the event of a disaster. After a while, the broken down houses and floating cars do not appear real. They belong to puppet people that can be pulled out of water by pairs of strings, and placed easily on dry land. It’s a good thing there was no fire.

Ukraine had a moderate to heavy snowfall this winter.

Look out at the sea and think, “The world is so huge and mine to conquer.” The sea looks back and says, “Anything is possible.”

When I was young I went to Goa. There I picked up a silver starfish and placed it in a plastic bag. It died by the time I got back to the hotel.

Where have the celebrities gone? If the Indian cricket team wants to be like the Australian one, now is a good time to begin.

Flow with the tides. And pray to the sea.
