Recent years have seen an upsurge in innovation in the naming of Indian films. Here are a few more ideas.

New names for new films

The naming of Bollywood films is seeing an upsurge in innovation nowadays like never before.

There are two distinct and significant trends. First, there is the borrowing of names from older movies or catchy snippets from classic songs. Movies benefiting from this blast from the past technique include Chalte Chalte, Barsaat or Deewar.

Yet another trend is to have a mysterious subscript, usually in English, appended to the title of the movie. Saawan – the season of love (Amen!), Gangster – A Love Story or better still Banaras - A Mystic Love Story spring to the mind.

In the near future, these two trends will combine like the Ganga Jumna rivers and give rise to several interesting titles. Here are some movies to look forward to:

Khuda Gawah – Why I bombed Iraq

Ek Phool Do Maali – Gardeners have it tough

Mausam Mastana – Love in Kyoto

Dream Girl – The Thang

Ek Main aur Ek Tu – A story of two people

Bees Saal Baad – 2001, A Love Odyssey

Bombay to Goa – Why won't you love me Poona!!!

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak – Director's Take (Happy Ending)

Aaakhir Kyon – Friday the 14th

But the movie I am waiting most eagerly for is Masoom – the Return of Bambi. They assure me that the sequel is better.
