Hello again

I apologize for slipping on the responsibilities between blog and sip yesterday but I was trying to figure out why women act the way they do and thus was I experiencing passive violence (hate, self pity, guilt, lust, you name it). Anyways, reflections on that matter as far as non-violence is concerned are best left for another day. Today we will deal with a pressing and far more weighty matter.

Gandhi solves business imbroglio, bull on wall street "eats grass" again

How would Gandhi have handled the Enron, Xerox and MCI Worldcom crises? How would he clear away the fog of uncertainty that lowers all indices everyday (The NASDAQ is now at 1300 or so, can you remember when it touched 5,000?)

Understand these points to be true:
a) It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to pass into the Kingdom of God. (this does not mean that both rich men and camels who want to do nothing but pass eyes of needles are screwed). All it means is that the motivations must be clear: service of the less fortunate.
b) A businessman once told Gandhi that he had eleven mouths to feed and a business to run. Honesty, for him was not cutting it. Gandhi remarked cleverly that the problem was not with the business, it was with the businessman. Why did he encourage 11 idle mouths to feed off him (assuming justifiably that certain people of this magnificent eleven were above legal age to work)?
c) So beyond doubt these CEOs were hoarding far more than what they needed or for feeding similar "idle mouths" and "double chins". They were clearly in the wrong.
d) But Gandhi says, "Hold on to your stones. Don't throw them!". Do not judge...and all the good stuff. The Mahatma adds:
That to err is human, not to err divine
To mend ways is human, not to mend ways is devilish.
Devilish. No ambiguity about that. Gandhi says that confession of error is like sweeping floor clean of dirt and starting again. It is only natural. Come on people, we lie very often, even though we know:

What a tangled web we weave, when we first practise to deceive.

We forgave Clinton. Our parents forgave us. We will forgive our children. So why don't we give all the CEOs immunity and ask them to confess in full. The market will slide for a few days, but is sure to rise as all the uncertainty will disappear.
Gandhi advises confession before the sun sets, so that you can start the new day with a clear mind. Mr. CEO you have seen too many movies to see how easy it is for a person to fall into a pit of lies, when he could have confessed earlier (if only Othello had told his wife that it was Benhur he loved all along). Then sun is setting, Mr. CEO. Pray do confess. I have attached a link to different time zones so that you can see how many hours are left to sunset, in case you are are skiing in Switzerland, running with the bulls in Spain or swimming with the sharks in Australia. Understanding Sunsets Where ever you are

A further six people were killed in Israel today. This must surely be the most depressing chapter in the statistics hand book that is available for free when one purchases the manual on human history. For statistics, they are. After such a long period of mindless violence only the truly intelligent will have the brain processing power to think of these numbers as real people with feelings, hopes, aspirations, children and family members.

Let us picturize the suicide bomber. He didn't wake up, brush his teeth, strap on a belt full of plastic explosivesand step into the great wide, open spaces. This action was but but merely the last step in a series of acts of violence. The only difference being that this last act manifested iteself in such a hateful way. Which brings one to think: surely there must a a thing called passive violence, which is the cause and just as dangerous as active violence.

Aren't we all guilty of acts of passive violence on a daily basis? Hate, jealousy? These have their place and we would all be be very boring people without them. But let us not allow these to turn into judgment. Then, they form crutches to support the rationale for our deeds. Gandhi says, "Magnify your own failings and proclaim it to the world, before the world points accusing fingers at you." Men of God, men of honesty must be so, not because they are faultless, but because they know their faults. They condemn not the evil doer (who is at best a victim of circumstance) but the evil. Maybe if Israel and Palestine start to look at their own actions and then condemn violence, not the perpetrators, it would be a good start. A thought of a person dying by a bomb or bullet should be enough to induce vommit. When I got drunk at a party and made a total ass of myself, it behooved my friends to talk of "empty stomachs and alcohol" rather than me. Anyways, this is all a grandiose vision and will be aborted far before it reaches reality. The correct way is baby steps. Make nice small blocks of out simple day to day matters and then in the end there will be a house or castle. I will try not to get distracted by the headlines tomorrow.

Hello,
I think I was suffering from delusion yesterday what with a fever and all, thanks to Vicks Nyquill, which God surely put on earth to give us beautiful dreams. Yesterday's entry was unclear and I must emphasize that this blog is in no way meant to moralize about matters. But think of Gandhi and you see a confident man with a gentle smile. This is truly the meaning of the word "chilling". So every day, I do think it is worthwhile to expound his thoughts on day-to-day matters. We are all capable and worthy of achieving this state. I am not sure if I can, but I am sure I must.
Working with detachment (or what to tell your boss at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow)
"Look at the lilies of the field, they toil not nor do they spin, yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. The reference is clearly to the King. Gandhi says that the lilies merely give the impression of not toiling or spinning. In fact they are toiling ceaselessly. And they would not know what to do if they were not to spin. But they do so with detachment. This is working with all your heart without worrying about the end result. For folks working in advertising, you can work all night on a deck or ad. You have put in all you possibly can. Come morning (when the lark is still in its wing) the thing is not ready. Tough luck. There is nobody to blame. If we have done our best, there is no need to worry about whether it perishes or flourishes.
Gandhi says that we must let good as well as bad news pass us by like water over a ducks back. We are merely instruments. This is the meaning of karma. In order to be good instruments, he always advocates rest and even praises the Brits for the same. I trust if Gandhi were my boss, he would shoo me out of the office every evening at 5:00. Unfortunately, he is not my boss. But shoo I myself will.
"Bye bye," spoken courteously with a gentle nod of the head is strongly advocated.
This all has no apparent connection with non violence, but one must first have house in order before throwing a party. New experiment of Gandhi will follow tomorrow.

First Post on a Long Journey

Hello people of the world that we live in.
Can you imagine what Gandhi would have done if he were alive today. What would he expect us to do? What would he reply when we wrote to him,
Dear Mahatma
Trust you are well.
My girlfriend and I went to this trendy bar yesterday. The bouncer was very rude. He pushed me and insulted her saying, "that is in no way leather." Now this is a girl I want to marry. She thinks less of me and I am fast becoming not the "man" in our relationship.Should I have hit the bouncer or walked away? (I walked away)
Curious
Regards
Arun
You will be surprised to know that Gandhi advocated violence as a better option than cowardice. This site through Gandhi's writings on day to day matters like breakfast, business practises, women in society and the like will attempt to evolve a working theory of:
a) Bush's response in Afghanistan
b) India's reponse in Kashmir and
c) Israel and Palestine.

To practise non violence, let us understand non violence. Two spoons of salt in my coffee please.
